What to Expect

Light That Works at the Cellular Level

Plunsana's red light therapy panels deliver two specific wavelengths: 660nm (visible red) and 850nm (near-infrared). These aren't random numbers. They're the wavelengths with the most research supporting their ability to penetrate tissue and stimulate mitochondrial function.

660nm targets skin, surface tissue, and superficial wounds. 850nm penetrates deeper into muscle, joints, and bone. Together, they cover the full depth of therapeutic benefit.

Red light therapy is included with all memberships and drop-in visits. Use it before or after your sauna and cold plunge session for a complete recovery stack.

Why Red Light Works

What the Research Shows

Cellular Energy (ATP Production)

Red and near-infrared light stimulate cytochrome c oxidase in your mitochondria, increasing ATP production. More ATP means more energy available for cellular repair, immune function, and recovery. This is the mechanism behind most of red light therapy's documented benefits.

Skin Repair & Collagen

660nm light stimulates fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis. Research supports its use for wound healing, reducing fine lines, improving skin tone, and accelerating recovery from sun damage. Consistent use produces visible changes over weeks.

Joint & Muscle Recovery

850nm near-infrared light penetrates deep enough to reach joint capsules, tendons, and muscle tissue. It reduces oxidative stress at the site of damage and supports faster tissue repair. Athletes and people managing joint pain both benefit from regular sessions.

Inflammation Reduction

Photobiomodulation at these wavelengths has been shown to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines and increase anti-inflammatory markers. This makes red light therapy a useful complement to cold plunge and contrast therapy, which also target inflammation through different pathways.

How It Works

Using Red Light at Plunsana

1

Position Yourself

Stand or sit 6–18 inches from the panel. Expose the area you want to treat. For general wellness, face the panel and rotate to cover your full body.

2

10–20 Minutes

Sessions are typically 10–20 minutes. The light does its work at the cellular level. No heat, no UV, no discomfort. Most members use red light before or after their sauna and cold plunge rounds.

3

Consistency Compounds

The benefits of red light therapy build with consistent use. Skin improvements, joint recovery, and energy gains are cumulative. Members who use it 3–5 times per week report the strongest results.

Red Light Therapy FAQ

660nm is visible red light that targets skin, surface tissue, and collagen production. 850nm is near-infrared light that penetrates deeper into muscle, joints, and bone. Plunsana's panels deliver both wavelengths simultaneously, covering both superficial and deep tissue benefits.
No. Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths (660nm and 850nm) that do not contain UV radiation. There is no tanning effect, no UV exposure, and no increased skin cancer risk. It's a completely different technology with a different mechanism of action.
For best results, use red light therapy 3–5 times per week. Benefits are cumulative and build over time. Since it's included with every visit, most members add 10–20 minutes of red light to their regular sauna and cold plunge routine.
No. Red light therapy is included with all Plunsana memberships and drop-in visits. There is no additional charge. It's part of the studio experience.
